I consider this very bare painting as the preparation for Overflows: importance of collages for an effect in the sobriety, cruciform theme which is predominant at that period, importance of brown and sand tones on bluish background. Reminiscence of a text by Mallarmé, this painting doesn’t finish with its appearance.
